Happy New Year
I’ve been blogging on this site since the beginning of 2024. It was a great year to start because January 1st fell on a Monday—perfectly convenient. For the past year, I’ve published one blog post every Monday morning at midnight, Zurich time. I’ve grown fond of this rhythm; the regularity suits me.
Often, I wrote the posts during a quiet moment on a given Sunday. Occasionally, I prepared something in advance. What delighted me most was that my list of ideas for blog posts kept growing faster than I could write and publish them. I never felt obligated to write “just for the sake of it.” Instead, I always had something I genuinely wanted to share.
When I went on holiday—or during the busy month of December—I scheduled posts ahead of time. Thanks to the magic of GitHub Actions, they would publish automatically. This system worked beautifully until my Christmas vacation. Unfortunately, I ran out of included minutes for GitHub Actions because I’d been experimenting with pipelines using a macOS runner (which has a 10x cost factor). As a result, the last two posts of the year didn’t go live as scheduled.
Even though some friends reminded me about the missing posts, I didn’t feel like fixing it over the holidays. Instead, I addressed the issue today as I was writing this post1.
My Reflection on a Year of Blogging
This isn’t my first attempt at blogging, but it’s the first time I’ve committed to doing it consistently—and it worked. In my view, it worked well. I’ve always enjoyed reading the opinions and writings of others, and, to my surprise, I’ve also enjoyed the process of writing my own posts.
I’m fully aware that many of the writers I admire are far better than I am. Their phrasing is more elegant, and their writing flows effortlessly. I also don’t harbour any illusions about my content; nothing I’ve written hasn’t been said before, often by people far smarter and more knowledgeable.
But for me, this blog was never just about what I write. It’s about the act of writing itself, experimenting with tools to build and manage the blog, and maintaining my own little corner of the internet. If anyone happens to read it, that’s simply a bonus.
Here’s to another year of blogging. I plan to continue in 2025 much as I did in 2024—or perhaps I’ll adapt as needed. You never know what the future holds.
Happy 2025 to all!
I doubt anyone missed much here—during Christmas, people likely have better things to do than read my blog. ↩︎
